The printmaking workshop is run by master lithographer, Marian Maguire, who has worked in collaboration with other artists to produce limited editions of original, handmade prints for more than 20 years. Maguire received her BFA from Canterbury University under the tutelage of Barry Cleavin and in 1984, while still at Art School, printed the work of Ralph Hotere (this began a working relationship which continued until 2008). Maguire trained further at the Tamarind Institute of Lithography in 1986 and with Stephen Gleeson she set up Limeworks print studio which operated from 1987 to 1994. Since 1995 she has run PaperGraphica. She has worked with some of the leading figures in New Zealand art and believes that printmaking brings out an aspect of an artist's vision that is often unexpressed in their other work. Each printmaking medium has its own characteristics and it is the response the artist makes to their chosen medium that enlivens the work. Aside from occasional projects with other artists Marian Maguire has now largely retired from her role as collaborative printer and concentrates on producing her own work. |
